Find out what type of lenses you need
Most nearsighted and farsighted people need single-vision lenses, which have only one corrective power. Single vision lenses are also used to for reading glasses, to correct presbyopia (when you have trouble focusing on objects at a close range.)
Multifocal lenses have two or more different corrective powers.
Understand your lens material options
There are four different materials that you can have your prescription lenses made from:
PLASTIC
Plastic is the most economical choice, and recommended for people with light prescriptions up to +/-1.75.
POLYCARBONATE
Polycarbonate lenses are impact resistant and recommended for children and people with active lifestyles - good for prescriptions up to +/- 4.00.
HIGH INDEX 1.67
High Index 1.67 lenses are 45% lighter than plastic lenses and recommended for people with prescriptions up to +/-9.00.
HIGH INDEX 1.74
The thinnest and lightest lens material is High Index 1.74 which is recommended for people with high prescriptions.
The expert opticians at Opticiwear.com can answer any questions you may have about these options.
Understand your lens coating options
You’ve picked your frames and lenses. There’s just one choice left to make; your lens add-ons. FramesDirect.com's opticians always recommend adding anti-reflective (AR) and UV (ultraviolet) coatings to your lenses.
AR coating will improve the clarity of your vision and help ease eye fatigue. UV coating shields your eyes from the sun’s harmful rays and comes standard on all our polycarbonate and high index lenses.
